Av: Paulista: transitory territory

The Places en Relation project – an initiative of the Civic City Institute, led by French-Swiss professor and designer Ruedi Baur – elected 10 cities in the world to reflect on the role of squares in contemporary public spaces. São Paulo was one of the chosen cities and Rico Lins was invited (in partnership with designer Kiko Farkas) to participate in the project. Extensive, dispersed and polycentric, São Paulo has Avenida Paulista as its symbolic center and its transformation process on Sundays was the starting point for our reflection.

The first stage of the project took place in October 2017 during the São Paulo Architecture Biennial and had the support of ProHelvetia and the production company to record, with video and audio interviews, the flow and public participation in this great urban gathering. The result of this event connected to the other cities participating in the exhibition “The nation as fiction” at the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris in January 2018 and, when completed, will be the object of a series of activities at the Théâtre Saint-Gervais in Geneva, an institution that hosts the project.
